New York with a little bit of Belgium
Next to Antwerp, we truly are New York lovers (I <3 NY). And believe it or not, but during a trip to the American East Coast, burgers are the first thing that comes to mind. Because we’re also true burger lovers. Thus, in Antwerp there are only few undiscovered burger places left. And when Manhattn’s finally opened its doors at the Groenplaats location (they already had two restaurants in Brussels) it was like a dream come true. Real New York burgers in the heart of Antwerp – the three things we happen to love most! And as it befits a real American burger, they serve them on those soft sandwich buns. But then again, as it befits real Belgians, they also added a certain Belgian touch to it – can’t take the Burgundy out of the Belgian. The result? Straightforward and yet not too simple, but definitely delicious burgers!
Why Manhattn's ?
Vibe
On a sunny day you can perfectly enjoy your burger outside. But we really liked it inside. No uncomfortable and unnecessary rushed feeling. Even though things move forward quickly, you don’t get the impression you have to leave as quickly as you came.
Area
In the middle of the historical city center of Antwerp. Symbolically speaking they couldn’t have chosen a better location to show how two different cultures can easily get entangled.
Wifi
We didn’t take the time to enter a wifi password with our greasy fingers so we didn’t even bother to check whether wifi was available :)
Pricing
11 euros (aprox.) will get you a burger. 16 will get you drinks and French fries as well.
Life changing
Fun fact: one of the two founders spend no less than two years in a Wafels & Dinges foodtruck in the streets of Manhattan and we want to bet that those waffles changed a whole lot of New York lives. Years later they return to Belgium bringing along a bit of New York culture. An experience on its own!
Service
The Manhattn’s staff totally diggs it. People come here to eat, not to sit around and wait to get served. Amen! Enter and immediately order at the counter. You will receive a pager that will soon go off once your food is ready. Oh, by the way, don’t bother making reservations as they don’t accept that.
Interior
A modern and warm interior where yellow and black colors are being alternated with tons of lightbulbs. We love it!
Specialty
It doesn’t always have to be special. We totally loved their straightforward and yet not too simple burgers. We’ll have the Rockefeller burger: simple with a slice of bacon. But the thing we craved most for some silly reason was their homemade ice tea! Next time we’ll be ordering a pitcher!
