Having lunch with your coworkers

After we had discovered Kofika through social media (yes, that’s how it goes nowadays) we were immediately impressed by the nice shape of the place. The pictures we found online looked promising on so did the reviews. So last Wednesday we went ahead and tested the lunch at Kofika.

Kofika takes up a whole corner of the Doornelei and that’s its charm. The tables and chairs all had this modern look and feel. As there already are enough interiors today with a vintage touch we did think this was nice for a change. The modern style and the great mural in the back gave the place a clean and spacious impression.

We ordered a simple coffee which tasted good and after a little chat we finally headed over to the bar to order our lunch. The menu has something to offer for pretty much anybody, whether you’re very hungry or not. You can expect healthy food with a “simple” twist meaning all dishes are very accessible for anyone without being scared off by special ingredients you’ve never heard of.

At first the prices do seem a little high, but then again we totally misjudged the portions. A bowl of soup (with spelt bread) is a HUGE bowl and definitely worth its price. The sandwiches are crispy, just the way we like it. You know, the type of ciabatta-ish bread! And the club chicken-bacon-cheddar-mayo-ketchup-letuce is also ok (although we weren’t very much impressed with the salad on the side).

Our second round is the dessert round. There are some tastings on the bar – pieces of bread pudding and merengues. The bread pudding tastes so good we can’t resist ordering a piece. We shared the bread pudding as one piece was humongous. But you don’t hear us complaining 

We thought the nicest thing about Kofika was the fact that you could just sit there and chat away undisturbed. We easily spent about three hours there while feeling the atmosphere. It’s relaxed and easygoing. And while it’s obvious that during lunch hours the place is packed, it never felt uncomfortable as in you’d want to escape the crowds. The waitresses behind the bar are very friendly, by the way, and they don’t give us a stressed or hurried impression.

So Kofika might not be the place to be for a fast bite. It’s the place you go to to have a nice chat amongst colleagues during your lunch break. It’s the perfect escape from your busy workday!
